Burt Township School

Burt Township School is the hub of the community. It is one of the few K-12 schools in the state and is designated an "island" school because of its remote location. The small size of the school creates a family atmosphere with lots of one-on-one student/teacher interaction. The Grand Marais Polar Bears are a member of the Northern Lights League and compete in co-ed soccer, boy's basketball, and girls' basketball. In addition to a solid core education and small class sizes, our school offers unique opportunities not found in other schools. Some examples:

Outdoor education in the 1300-acre School Forest, just east of town
A climbing wall right inside the school building
A professional-standard disk golf course in the School Forest
Winter activities such as snowshoeing and skating
A student - maintained garden
Field trips around the region, and a yearly Senior Trip
Community service projects (this year the high school students are building a walkway over First Creek)

Visit the Burt Township School website for more information. New students are always welcome!
