Grand
Marais Lifesaving Station
There were five Goast Guard Lifesaving Stations on the treacherous
Lake Superior coast between Munising and Whitefish Point.
This lifesaving station in Grand Marais was the westernmost
of the five. To the east, Deer Park, Two-Heart River, Crisp Point, and Vermilion
Point
all had stations similar to this one. This photo was taken
looking
to the west over Grand Marais Bay. The lifesaving station
is
in the near right foreground. Boats were launched into the
calmer waters of the bay and then rowed around into the rougher
waters of Lake Superior.
